The Lotus Elise and Exige models were equiped with bulb lights on the rear, brake/stop, tail, indicator, fog and reverse, all bulbs.
It is common practice to retrofit LED clusters in place of the original lights because the lenses of the old light fade and it refreshes the rear of the car to a great extent. The lights come at cost, and are available through lotus and junks et al. and are produced by the Perei company in the uk.
Replacing the UK/EUR rear lights of the 111r elise is simple and just plug and play. No ballasts or resistors needed in my case and the connectors are interchangable.

The outer units have a LED ‘halo’ tail pattern which intensifies when braking. The inner directional blinker remains a bulb.
The UK/EUR inner units only have a bright LED fog pattern which a semi circle – just the inner halves, the outer halves have nothing, no leds no dummy, nothing. The inner (white) bulbs are reverse. So basically the inner LED units are just expensive reverse light holders 🙂 Who needs fog lights, except for the dutch MOT.
Currently i am replacing those inner LED units for FED(eral) US lights. Still plug and play for the reverse and the halo tail light. However – do not expect brake or fog out of the box. This disables the fog functionality of the car so not recommended for MOT.

At least on my 111r, pin 4 and 6 on the loom are both always tail light, on inner and outer loom connector.

I’m considering to revert the left of the inner reverse bulbs to a (red) fog bulb by splicing in the loom. The pin of the brake function of the inner LED connector isn’t mated to anything currently so that could be paired with the outer brake LED connection is assume. It is only 3 or 4W per lamp (total of 15W where the original outer brake bulb was of similar power. But for now it is okay. I can’t see my own brake lights anyway and i hate fog lights 😉
